Hemp gets one step closer to approval as a feed for laying hens as FDA agency gives go-ahead

A significant milestone has been reached in the approval process for using hemp as feed for laying hens in the United States. The Center for Veterinary Medicine at the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) recently endorsed the definition of “hemp seed meal” (HSM), as proposed by the Ingredient Definition Committee of the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). This tentative wording, approved last week, is expected to be officially adopted by AAFCO later this year.
